Rainer Bachschmid
Rainer Bachschmid is the designer behind the RABA SIDEBOARD, which he developed for dk3 in 2009. He was born in Germany but moved to Switzerland, where he lives today. He was originally educated as a carpenter but also studied Industrial Design at the University of Wuppertal. During his career he has been cooperating with various design brands, and for ten years he was in charge for design and development for a Swiss furniture company. In 2006 he established his own design company rabadesign.
His designs are characterized by a great passion for furniture of solid wood and raw, organic materials, and with his carpenter background and long experience within furniture manufacturing he has a unique craftsmanship approach to the entire design process. With the whole world as inspiration, he creates beautiful, functional and creative solutions for dk3 and a number of other international brands.
His craftsmanship skills and love for solid wood distinctly appear in the design of the RABA SIDEBOARD, where the doors and drawers have been made from one piece of wood to underline the movement and natural characteristics of the wood. The pure and simple design is further emphasized by the absence of handles and by the sloping edges of the doors and drawers.
