System Ultra®

Design by Poul Cadovius, 1957

In 1957, the Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius launched the shelving system, System Ultra®, as a successor to the iconic Royal System® from 1948. System Ultra® is based on the same design principle as its famous predecessor, but it has its very own visual appearance.

System Ultra® consists of wall-mounted wooden rails, moulded veneer shelves and hangers in brass, black steel or stainless steel. It also comprises a clothes rack in black steel and a cabinet in wood with sliding doors in either wood, clear glass or rippled glass. The system is characterized by the ultrathin shelves with a refined wave-shaped edge profile that gives the shelving a beautiful organic shape. It can be customized in multiple combinations, where the various materials complement each other and enhance the elegant design.

In 1957, Poul Cadovius exhibited at the XI Triennale in Milan, where he won a silver medal for System Ultra®. A highly treasured prize and an international recognition of an exceptional design.

Materials

Rails: solid wood in oak/oil or walnut/oil

Wood shelves and cabinet: moulded veneer in oak/oil or walnut/oil

Clothes rack: black steel

Hangers: brass, stainless steel or black steel (screws same material as hangers)

The wood used for the System Ultra® rails contains more natural elements such as more visible wood grain, mirror (oak), sapwood, and putty-filled knots than the wood used for the Royal System® rails.

Since brass is softer than steel, shelves w/ brass hangers are expected to "warp" more than shelves w/ steel hangers.

The shelves may deflect slightly over time. To maintain a straight profile, we recommend a max load of 15 kg per shelf. Fluctuations in temperature and light incidence may influence the integrity of the shelves.

Tested at Danish Technological Institute EN16121:2013 / EN16122:2012 in 2018

We recommend that System Ultra® is installed by professionals. Please also see our assembly instruction and installation video.
